A weekend retreat built for low-fuss ownership — robust materials, honest detailing, and progress the owner could track from the city without chasing anyone.

A farmhouse is empty most of the week, and that changes what you build. Finishes that need attention are the wrong finishes here. Exposed brick and stone do not mind being left alone; a pool that sits away from the house keeps damp away from the walls; a veranda that wraps the plan means the doors can stay open through the day. The point was a house the owner arrives at on a Friday evening without a list of things to fix.
